Senator Ted Cruz is out promoting his Protect College Sports Act, and he is promoting it heavily.
ESPN’s College GameDay show gave him ten coveted minutes of airtime on Saturday to explain what he sees as the immense benefits of the legislation.
Essentially, the bill gives the NCAA, an unelected private association, sweeping federal authority over eligibility, roster spots, financial allocation, and the structure of men’s and women’s teams.
The bill does some good things, but it puts state laws that protect female athletes at risk.

As you likely know, college sports have become a huge industry. Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) payments to players consume more and more cash, and that is putting enormous pressure on schools to compete.
Unfortunately, this puts women’s sports squarely in the crosshairs.
Right now there are 28 states that have bravely passed legislation preventing men from playing in women’s sports. But Senator Cruz’s legislation would put that in jeopardy.
Cruz pays lip service to women’s sports by saying “nothing in this bill overrides Title IX.” What he doesn’t tell you: there’s also nothing in this bill that stops bureaucrats, judges, or NCAA officials from establishing new ‘standards’ which demolish state laws protecting women.

In creating national standards for how colleges treat college athletes, Ted Cruz’s bill would put in danger these state laws protecting women from competing against men.
A bill that claims to protect women’s sports should not gut the framework women depend on to keep those sports alive.
The fix is simple. An amendment could explicitly exempt state and local laws that prohibit biological men from competing in women's sports from the bill's preemption clause.
This wouldn't derail the bill's core purpose, it would simply ensure Congress isn't inadvertently erasing protections that millions of women rely on.
Take action today to save women’s sports for women—and to save women’s sports, period.
We need a bill that actually protects women’s sports.
