Friend,
Democratic Socialist Francesca Hong lost this week’s Wisconsin gubernatorial primary to a more “mainstream” Democrat — Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley.
But that doesn’t mean the socialist-communist threat to the Democratic Party is over. Hong lost by a razor-thin margin of about 0.4% in what is arguably the most politically purple state in the union.
Based on that close vote, Crowley has announced he will be campaigning with Hong as part of a unity tour. So, although Hong lost, she isn’t going away.
There is still huge support for the worldview the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) are promoting, and it isn’t limited to Wisconsin.
<< Fight the spread of socialism and communism. >>
Case in point: In this week’s Minnesota Senate Democratic primary, an establishment candidate, U.S. Representative Angie Craig, was defeated soundly by the unimpressive but progressive Lt. Gov Peggy Flanagan — by 20 points.
Flanagan doesn’t march under the DSA banner officially, but she was endorsed by socialist Bernie Sanders. She also campaigned wearing a hijab alongside Somali candidates despite not being Muslim. She also delivered a speech on transgender issues while wearing a shirt that read “Protect trans rights” and featured a knife — in a state that saw a transgender shooter kill two children at a Catholic school during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
A victory for her is a victory for the communist and Islamist policies espoused by people like Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York City and Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, winner of Michigan’s Democratic senate primary.
It is becoming increasingly clear that we are in a battle for the very soul of our nation. Not just in Democratic strongholds, but everywhere.
We are once again faced with the specter of communism. And this time, it may be more insidious than it was during the Cold War because the threat is within and masked with social media slickness.
Where unsavory and crotchety figures like Nikita Khrushchev once threatened to bury opponents, today’s DSA often wears a smooth, youthful smile and sports the assuring demeanor of a party wishing nothing but a comfortable life of “free everything” for its followers.
We are up against an unprecedented assault on our American values. And we must muster within ourselves the resolve to save our republic.
<< Protect the rightful place of religion in the public square. >>
I am reminded of something Archbishop Fulton Sheen said in one of his telecasts, “The true battle against communism begins within the heart of every single American.”
Let us reach deep into our hearts and ignite that noble flame.
CatholicVote is already on the ground, rallying voters in key races around the country. But every mailing we send, every phone call we make, every outreach initiative requires financial resources.
Please, strengthen our ability to fight on your behalf with a financial gift of any amount. We make every dollar donated go a long way.
