Abdul El-Sayed has won the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate race in Michigan.
Last-minute endorsements to his opponent Haley Stevens by Senator Gary Peters and Governor Gretchen Whitmer were too little, too late to stop El-Sayed.
El-Sayed is not simply another liberal Democrat. Endorsed by socialist Bernie Sanders, El-Sayed calls for socialist healthcare, abolishing the Senate filibuster, and abolishing ICE. He also campaigned side-by-side with streamer Hasan Piker, who said “America deserved 9/11.”
Abdul El-Sayed was outspent 9 to 1, but still won. And now a Democratic Socialist candidate has been nominated for a statewide race in a swing state.
This is a FIVE ALARM FIRE — and Catholics need to respond.
Right now, our team is preparing to send 100,000 postcards directly to targeted Catholic voters across Michigan. These are voters who share our values but may not yet understand how much is at stake — or how much their vote could matter this November.
We are also hosting volunteer meetups across the state, recruiting local Catholic leaders, and building a grassroots network capable of reaching voters through their families, parishes, and communities.
CatholicVote is not waiting until the final weeks of the election to act.

CatholicVote will soon launch a digital advertising campaign designed specifically to reach Catholics who may not be following the race closely. That effort will be supported by text messages, volunteer outreach, voter education, and additional organizing throughout the fall.
This is about more than defeating one candidate.
It is about confronting an ideological movement that fundamentally opposes the American way of life, calls for radical revolution in our country, and targets Christians who practice their faith.
Michigan could determine control of the United States Senate. But it could also determine whether the socialist left will take over the entire Democratic Party.
Catholic voters will be the difference.
The postcards are being prepared. Volunteers are stepping forward. Our advertisements are being produced. And CatholicVote is building the infrastructure necessary to make sure Michigan Catholics understand exactly what is at stake.
