U.S. life expectancy makes a slow rebound from covid, regaining less than half the years lost to the pandemic, new CDC data shows

Chronic illnesses, drug overdoses and homicides continue to fuel a mortality crisis that has made the United States an outlier in longevity among wealthy nations. The data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows life expectancy in 2022 was 77.5 years, which was 1.1 years higher than the year before but substantially lower than the nation's life expectancy high.

Astronomers discover six planets orbiting a nearby sun-like star, a rare find that offers clues to planet formation

The new planets, described in the journal Nature, could provide a breakthrough in the understanding of how planets form and why there are so many between the sizes of Earth and Neptune, a class known as "sub Neptunes" that is astoundingly common in our galaxy.
