Friend,
Bishop Robert Barron has been raising the alarm about so-called “democratic socialism” in the United States.
We at CatholicVote couldn’t agree more. The country is witnessing a growing communist electoral groundswell.
<< Stop the leftist attack on American ideals >>
Mayor Zohran Mamdani of New York is emerging as the face of this massive leftward shift on the Democratic side of the aisle. In his electoral speech in January, he said, "We will replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism."
Bishop Barron responded in amazement, saying that line “took my breath away.” The bishop continued: “Collectivism in its various forms is responsible for the deaths of at least one hundred million people in the last century. ... For God's sake, spare me the 'warmth of collectivism.'"
Mamdani leveraged his mayoral power to help three Democratic Socialists to win congressional primaries: Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier, and Brad Lander.
But it’s not just confined to New York. Melat Kiros just won a democratic congressional primary in Colorado, socialist Janesse Lewis George won the primary and will likely be the mayor of our nation’s capital, and even though he has now dropped out of the race, Graham Platner nevertheless won the nomination in Maine.
And we’re keeping our eyes on others, like Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan and Francesca Hong in Wisconsin.
Those are just some of the more familiar faces of the new far left. There are many more.
<< Defeat communists in democrat clothing >>
Politicians like them are on the rise nationwide. And they are cheered on by already established figures such as Bernie Sanders in the Senate and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the House of Representatives.
They don’t all brand themselves “democratic socialist” but they all advocate a similar and dangerous political philosophy. Their rise, to borrow Bishop Barron’s words, represents “the victory of people who stand athwart the fundamental principles that undergird our country.”
It is not an exaggeration to say that Democratic socialists despise the goals of our Founding Fathers and the worldview that sees God as the source from which human rights emanate.
In plainer terms: these people are not “democratic.” They ARE, as Bishop Barron charitably calls them, “borderline communists.”
And that makes their popularity a grave danger.
<< Protect our nation from irreparable harm >>
Karl Marx–the father of communism–saw the elimination of religion as essential to the success of his worldview, which is part of the reason why over 100 million have been killed by societies that adopt this ideology.
We need to put out the flames of this false vision of God, man, and human flourishing before its lies take root.
As Bishop Barron put it: "What we have to fight for is a democratic civilization predicated upon objective moral value and finally upon God who presides over the very freedom that we exercise," he said. "Fight for that culture in entertainment and in politics and in communication and in every aspect of life. That is a cultural war worth fighting."
CatholicVote is ready for that battle, especially at the ballot box. Join us in this fight for the soul of our nation.
Go forward bravely,
