Yesterday, I woke up and asked my husband if Charlie Kirk's assassination was a nightmare.
Today, I woke up to continued celebrations of his death, the deeper realization that our country has advanced cancer, and fear that we are in danger of losing her to it.
That advanced cancer is evil, widespread, and metastasizing.
The disease is not only political, as Charlie himself knew. It is spiritual. A culture without God will always end in confusion, division, and violence.
But if we focus only on political solutions, we will not only be disappointed, we will fail. The root of our decline is spiritual–hate exists in the human heart–and therefore the revival must begin there.
Just two days before Charlie's life ended, the President of the United States announced an initiative that drew little attention. He called it: America Prays. He asked for Americans to gather in groups of 10 for an hour a week to pray for the soul of America. | Charlie Kirk knew this was necessary; that's why the man who did the most to move Gen Z toward conservatism, a +44 shift, said he wanted to be remembered most of all as courageous for his faith.
As I said on Newsmax this morning, Charlie's unique gift was integrating his deep Christian faith with his unapologetic defense of America's founding values. He didn't compartmentalize–he lived what so many of us know but need to remember again: that faith and politics are not enemies but allies when serving the truth about the human person.
Charlie's example challenges us: Are we willing to take risks for what we believe, or are we content to stay comfortable?
We must take those risks with our faith and with our witness of it in the public square.
CV is proud to partner with the White House on the America Prays initiative and we invite you to join us in praying daily for the soul of the nation into and throughout the America 250 jubilee year. Let's start today, all the while refusing to separate our faith from our call to live it publicly.
Just as Charlie Kirk so courageously did. Go forward bravely, | Kelsey Reinhardt President, CatholicVote P.S. Our work is more important than ever.
