How did they do it? By innovating.
They saw potential in the power of video to reach people in ways traditional printed election-related materials couldn't. They had the audacity to try to get this remarkable ad aired during the Super Bowl (but of course, NBC refused).
They created The LOOP newsletter after recognizing a need for online news content that provided a Catholic perspective on the news of the day while filtering the deluge of other news to find stories of particular significance for Catholics.
When podcasting became a favorite source of information for people, they green-lighted LOOPcast to provide a more in-depth perspective on the news of the day while maintaining the spirit of a joyful fighter.
They built a network of dedicated volunteers so the CatholicVote mission could be quickly mobilized to contact elected officials when important legislation is being debated on Capitol Hill, or turn up in-person when grassroots activism is needed.
As we celebrate the canonizations of Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis, it is worth pausing to recognize how their lives were marked by the very same spirit that animates CatholicVote today: a bold, joyful fidelity to the Church and a desire to bring Christ into the heart of culture.
St. Pier Giorgio, immersed in the apostolic work of Catholic Action, labored to renew Italian society after World War I through the lens of Catholic social teaching by serving the poor, defending the family, and calling his peers to holiness.
St. Carlo Acutis, with radiant simplicity, harnessed the tools of the digital age not for self-promotion but for evangelization and built a website cataloging Eucharistic miracles to awaken in others a love for the Real Presence.
Both young men remind us that sanctity is not bound by age or era, and that Catholics are at their best when we live publicly, creatively, and courageously for Jesus Christ.
As CatholicVote looks ahead to the next 20 years, we ask you to join us in invoking their intercession. May their example inspire us to move forward with fervor, innovation, and fidelity for the renewal of the Church, the salvation of souls, and the sanctification of our nation.
"Verso l'alto!"
