| The White House is expected to announce as soon as Tuesday it intends to issue a rule requiring tobacco companies to lower nicotine in cigarettes to minimal or nonaddictive levels, according to an individual familiar with the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they did not have authorization to discuss the issue. About 480,000 Americans die of smoking-related causes each year, and tobacco use remains the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. |
