News Alert: Correction: Illinois issues stay-at-home order for its residents. An earlier alert stated Illinois would be under a lockdown.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) ordered Illinois residents to stay at home for nonessential activity, enforcing a measure that a growing number of states have taken to blunt the spread of coronavirus. The order will take effect Saturday evening and last through April 7, Pritzker said. A few businesses deemed essential, such as groceries and pharmacies, will remain open. "This is not a lockdown or martial law," Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said. An earlier version of this alert stated Illinois would be under a lockdown. This alert has been corrected.
