Friend,
Colorado is at it again.
After being rebuked by the Supreme Court in Masterpiece Cakeshop and again in 303 Creative, the state’s ruling class still has not learned the most basic constitutional lesson: the government has no right to crush freedom of conscience, violate religious liberty, and sideline parents who refuse to surrender their children to ideological coercion.
Now, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case brought by the Archdiocese of Denver, St. Mary Catholic Parish in Littleton, and St. Bernadette Catholic Parish in Lakewood after Colorado excluded them from the state’s so-called “universal” preschool program.
Why? Because the state demanded that these Catholic schools had to abandon their beliefs and practices on marriage, sexuality, and gender in exchange for public funding. That meant admitting students with two “moms” or “dads” even though that would create a scandal in the larger school community.
After three stunning losses over religious liberty at the Supreme Court, Colorado insists on discriminating against Christians.
These Catholic schools are not asking for special treatment. They are simply asking for equal treatment under the Constitution.
Catholic leaders in Denver have made it clear that Colorado’s decision to exclude Catholic schools has reduced their enrollment and contributed to the closure of Catholic preschools.
So much for “choice.” So much for “inclusion.” So much for the empty promise, made after Obergefell, that Christians would be left alone, so long as they agreed to keep quiet and get out of the way.
That is one reason more Americans are rallying to the “Greater Than” campaign, launched this year by a broad coalition that includes CatholicVote.
Its central claim is both simple and true: children’s rights are greater than adult desires.
A child’s need for a mother and a father is not erased because judges, activists, or legislators say otherwise.
And Catholic schools should not be forced to contribute to the societal deceit that harms children and goes against our faith.
Colorado may be the most radical state in the union on this point.
Let me be clear: CatholicVote will not surrender Colorado. We will not surrender any state. We will not surrender the rights of parents. We will not surrender the freedom of the Church. We will not surrender the truth about the human person.
And we will not be bullied into silence by officials who manipulate political power and falsely claim it as moral authority.
The people of Colorado deserve better than continuous ideological harassment. Catholic families deserve better. And America deserves leaders who understand that religious liberty is not some loophole, but a central bedrock of our Constitution.
Colorado may not be tired of losing. Fine. We are not tired of fighting.
Go forward bravely,
