Climate Alert: Federal flood maps vastly underestimated the threat in places hit hardest by Hurricane Helene, Post analysis shows

Federal Emergency Management Agency flood maps identified just 2 percent of properties in the mountainous areas of western North Carolina as within the "Special Flood Hazard Area" that is at risk of a 1-in-100-year flood.
