The first case in the United States of someone infected with the variant recently identified in the United Kingdom was announced by Colorado Gov. Jared Polis. The patient is a man in his 20s with no travel history who is recovering in isolation. The news came hours after British scientists reported the mutation-laden variant does not make people sicker or more likely to die but appears to be more transmissible. The variant has been identified in at least 17 countries outside Britain. |
