Join the global Jewish campaign to support refugees

#70million is a ten-day call from over 100 Jewish and Israeli organizations to take action around World Refugee Day in support of the over 70 million refugees, asylum seekers, and other displaced people around the world.

Jews worldwide are encouraged to support the cause by learning about the urgency of the refugee situation, donating to Jewish and Israeli organizations working with refugees, volunteering, advocacy, and more.

Last year, we witnessed the largest population of displaced persons in history. Today, 1% of humanity is displaced. An already vulnerable population, they are particularly exposed to the current COVID-19 pandemic: Refugees and asylum seekers who are trapped in overflowing camps and overcrowded cities around the world lack access to clean water, health care, and even clear information. For many, social distancing and regular hand washing are not an option.

The #70million campaign draws on shared Jewish values and history to encourage the global Jewish community to act for refugees: Jewish wisdom teaches to care for the stranger, to love them as ourselves. Jewish history is full of displacement and forced migration.

#70million is powered by OLAM and organized in partnership with AJWS, HIAS, IsraAID, JDC Entwine, Multifaith Alliance for Syrian Refugees, Repair the World, and World Jewish Relief. This campaign is possible thanks to the generous support of the Schusterman Fellowship.

To cap off the #70million campaign, we will be hosting a Facebook live webinar this Thursday, June 25 from 11am-12pm EST, on:

Resilience and Leadership:
A Conversation with Refugees

Hear from refugees who will share their stories and how they've become leaders in their communities!

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Zeinab Aboutak, a Syrian refugee working as Coordinator of the Refugee Employment Network with #70million partner World Jewish Relief in London.
  • Yasmin Ullah, a Rohingya refugee living in Canada. As the President of the Rohingya Human Rights Network, a non-profit group focused on advocacy and raising public awareness of the Rohingya genocide, she has collaborated with #70million partner American Jewish World Service.
  • Efrem Tesfa, an Eritrean refugee in Canada, who spent 8 years in Israel and was one of the founders of the Jerusalem African Community Center.
