The topic of division in sports has been on my mind since the pandemic, and I wanted to explore it in-depth in Grievance Games because we learn so much about America — its triumphs and failures, its possibilities and its impediments — through chronicling the lives of people who play and watch sports.

During this bizarre time in history, the erosion of community is a problem that has plagued us all, and our inability to unite becomes both explicit and sobering when viewed through the lens of sports, where the culture wars keep interfering with the entertainment, making it difficult to escape.
