Federally funded research at the University of California at San Francisco that uses fetal tissue is at risk of being halted as part of a building battle between conservatives opposed to the research and scientists who say it is vital to developing new therapies. The research hub has been instrumental in testing virtually all HIV therapies approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration over decades, and the NIH provides all the support for this work.
