This past season was one of the deadliest since federal health officials began tracking pediatric deaths 14 years ago, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Friday. About half of the young victims were otherwise healthy children. The toll could go even higher because of delays in confirming and reporting cases. And driven by the virulent H3N2 strain, the 2017-2018 season was the first — and only — to be classified as "high severity" for all age groups, the CDC said. |
