President Trump: What’s at risk for reproductive health [Sponsored by PSI]

Dear Aswani,

Women's reproductive health – here in the U.S. and around the world – is under threat.

President-elect Trump – with the support of a Republican-controlled House and Senate – could drastically cut America's funding of contraception and family planning in countries where Population Services International works.

The Trump-Pence administration, before taking office, has made clear its hostility to safe abortion and its determination to roll back protections on women's reproductive health and rights.

We could expect to see U.S. foreign assistance directed towards programs that promote abstinence and that have an anti-LGBT agenda, putting ideology over evidence, science and basic human rights.

Further, we expect President Trump to reinstate the "global gag rule," a Reagan-era prohibition on providing foreign aid to any organization that delivers abortion services.

Inevitably a Trump administration will oppose some of the things PSI does to help women and their families lead healthier lives.

That is why it's crucial for us to maintain diverse funding sources – including donations from individuals like you. If you believe that women – no matter where they live – should have safe access to family planning, please give PSI a gift of support.

Every aspect of the work we do helping women and their families is vital. And that work will continue – more importantly than ever, I would say.

Please join us.

Sincerely,

PSI is the most hard-working global health organization you've probably never heard of. Instead of expensive marketing campaigns, we focus on effective programs that save lives and help lift people out of extreme poverty. We've got 45 years of history and noted humanitarian Peter Singer names us one of the world's most effective charities.
