Big valve and lots to it The Cutzamala system supplies water to Mexico City through gravity lines from the surrounding mountains. VAG supplied two VAG EKN® DN 3200 and DN 3500 Butterfly Valves, together with dismantling joints for two parallel water transmission lines for a construction section located at about 2700 m a.s.l. Water supplier Conagua wants to safeguard against failure with a bypass system. To ensure this, VAG prepared detailed technical calculations and design drawings as well as an animated arrangement showing how the valves function. Why weld, Mr Baader? VAG Plunger Valves are fitted with hard-faced piston guide skids made of lead-free bronze. Jörg Baader, Technical Consultant in the VAG Consulting Team, explains why: "Build-up welding means that we can virtually rule out disbonding caused by corrosion.
