| Among asymptomatic participants in a new study, 20 percent carried a common variant called HLA-B*15:01. Individuals carrying two copies of this variant were more than eight times more likely to remain asymptomatic than those carrying other versions of the same gene. The discovery, described in the journal Nature, could help scientists open new avenues for developing vaccines and treatments. |
