Tommy Tuberville pledged to 'donate every dime' to veterans. He hasn't. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) has made veterans one of his key issues. The former football coach serves on both the Veterans' Affairs Committee and the Armed Services Committee. He is now in a high-profile battle with the Biden administration over abortion policy affecting veterans, stalling the confirmation of more than 250 senior military officers. When campaigning for the Senate in 2020, Tuberville — estimated to be worth about $20 million — pledged that if elected, he would donate his $174,000 annual salary to veterans causes in Alabama. We found there is no evidence he has done so, even though at this point the promised donations would amount to more than $400,000. Learn more by clicking the link below. Enjoy this newsletter? The email exchange took place about one month before then-Vice President Joe Biden traveled to Ukraine with the express purpose of seeking the removal of the country's top prosecutor. Moreover, The Fact Checker in 2019 had carefully documented the legal cases involving the energy company, Burisma, and its founder, Mykola Zlochevsky. Our bottom line: The email chain doesn't prove Hunter Biden influenced a policy developed within the U.S. government. Even before these emails were exchanged, policies had been developed at the State Department and elsewhere that was not advantageous to Burisma.
