The U.S. Coast Guard said Thursday that it is containing oil from a spill in the Gulf of Mexico that began more than 14 years ago. The Coast Guard ordered the company responsible for the spill, Taylor Energy, to mount a more aggressive clean-up after The Washington Post reported that outside experts contradicted the company's estimate that almost no oil was present at the site. More than 30,000 gallons of oil have been collected over several weeks since a containment system was installed, the Coast Guard said. |
