Environment Alert: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it will protect the whitebark pine tree under the Endangered Species Act

Federal officials announced Wednesday that the iconic tree, whose habitat spans 80 million acres in seven Western states and Canada, will be classified as threatened.
