The White House Council on Environmental Quality and the Environmental Protection Agency asked the Postal Service this month to reconsider plans to replace its delivery fleet with 90 percent gas-powered trucks and 10 percent electric vehicles, at a cost of up to $11.3 billion. The new trucks offer only a 0.4-mile-per-gallon fuel economy improvement over the current models. The contract, orchestrated by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, would undercut President Biden's climate goals and his push to electrify the federal fleet. |
