News Alert: Trump administration widens availability of skimpy, short-term health plans

The Trump administration issued new rules to encourage more people to buy inexpensive health insurance plans originally designed for short-term use. The policies will be available for 12 months at a time, up from a current limit of three, and customers will be able to renew them for an additional three years. The short-term plans can charge higher prices to customers with preexisting medical conditions or avoid covering those health problems and basic benefits such as maternity care — practices banned by the Affordable Care Act.
