Cancers linked to the human papillomavirus have increased significantly in the United States over the past 15 years, with throat cancer now the most common HPV-related malignancy, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday. At the same time, HPV vaccination rates are rising, the CDC said, a trend that could eventually curb the rise in cancer cases. But experts say the vaccination rate is not rising fast enough. "This vaccine is the best way to protect our youth from developing cancers caused by HPV," said CDC Director Robert Redfield in a statement. |
