Science Alert: Edward O. Wilson has died at 92. The Harvard naturalist, often cited as heir to Darwin, helped develop the field of sociobiology.

By deciphering the secrets of ants, Wilson learned how to study social behavior in all organisms and became one of the greatest naturalists of his generation.
