Hey, I'm Elizabeth!
I'm a Deputy Editorial Director for BuzzFeed shopping and all my life I've been a little too good at telling people what I think (ahem, *know*) they should buy. Turns out, that skill works quite well in this position. (Maybe it's not so great for my friends' wallets, though.) As a native North Carolinian who's lived in NYC for a decade, sweet tea still runs through my veins. I'm a sucker for dresses (pants be damned!), anything horror or the least bit spooky, true crime, metallic stuff, and some very silly comedy. But really, don't talk to me until you've seen the shirt skit from "I Think You Should Leave" or the "Joe Pera Talks With You" episode on waiting for the wig montage. Image: Berkley "The Final Girl Support Group" by Grady Hendrix is a must-read for anyone who's into horror and has a sense of humor. Really, anything by this author is a must read for folks who fit into that category. It considers what it would be like to live the rest of your life as the horror movie trope of being the only one who survives a massacre that gets turned into a horror movie franchise. My second fave book of the year is "Hola Papi," which made me cackle and feel all kinds of emotions in equal measure. But that wasn't a shocker because John Paul Brammer is *the* funniest person on Twitter. Image: Elizabeth Lilly I was fortunate to spend two weeks in Italy this summer and on that trip went to a private lunch with Michel'angelo in Capri. (Yep, Michel'angelo from the first chapter of Kevin Kwan's "Sex and Vanity.") I didn't have one single less-than-great meal in that glorious country BUT this meal was the best hands down…including some absolutely divine extra virgin olive oil that you can have shipped to the states. (And some folks just may be getting some from me for Christmas.) All the flavors are glorious but my fave is the lemon. I'd never had lemon EVOO before but I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to ration this stuff for myself because it's that good. This stuff will level up your bread dipping to airplane heights. But while you're at it, just get the 5-pack of different flavors like I did. It's worth the splurge. Image: Elizabeth Lilly I've had *lots* of skin issues over the years. As an adult who no longer deals with acne (ty, Accutane), my priority is covering up my flat, sunburn-looking rosacea. Enter this Dr. Jart potion that as you can see on one side of my face, does a fine job of color-correcting the redness. During COVID, I've gotten pretty comfortable being on work video calls without makeup and around some friends. (I'm trying to be skin-positive!) But when it comes to going for a full face of makeup, nothing makes my foundation look as good as layering this magical stuff underneath. Image: Elizabeth Lilly This blush oil turns your perfect shade of pink based on your skin's pH once applied. Plus the handy dandy blush brush from the same company can spread it like butter on top of your makeup…even if you wear heavy foundation to cover up your rosacea (like me!). I have super sensitive skin and this doesn't bother me. I love a gimmick, especially when it actually works out well!
