With world leaders set to gather at a major United Nations climate conference in less than two weeks, 100 public health experts and doctors warn in the Lancet that rising temperatures already have worsened heat and respiratory illness, while insects carrying tropical diseases have multiplied and spread illness toward the poles. Failure to curb greenhouse emissions will worsen hunger and chronic illnesses and wreak havoc on health systems, leading to millions of unnecessary deaths, they said. |
