Fluid dynamics for the ideal butterfly valve

CFD - Computational Fluid Dynamics – refers to numerical mechanics of fluids. With this method, fluidic problems can be visualised and solved as early as at the design stage. A good example is the VAG EKN® H300 Butterfly Valve with patented hydrodynamic disk, enlarged inner diameter and patented pressure-compensation channels in the disk.

The streamlined shape of the disk minimises vibrations and reduces wear and tear. Compared to conventional butterfly valves, it needs considerably shorter damping zones, which reduces the construction costs of a plant by up to 50%. Optimised Zeta values help save energy because less pump capacity is required.

Crown or pancake?

When does a raindrop splash? Surprisingly, before it hits the ground, because an air pocket forms between the drop and the surface. It is so heavily compressed that the raindrop splashes before it hits the ground. According to researchers, this is the reason why droplets often bounce to form a crown shape, instead of spreading out into a thin pancake.

That was the IFAT 2018!

Munich invited the world! Visitors from 160 countries came to the IFAT. A smart VAG DUOJET®-I Automatic Air Valve that can detect pipe bursts was one of the innovations and highlights shown at the booth of the VAG-Group.

VAG LeakMonitoring 4.0 was shown live. This innovative combination of sensor technology and IT detects and locates leaks in water supply systems.

How a modern bus system replaces a complete cable installation was demonstrated by the example of a VAG EKN® Butterfly Valve with a VAG HYsec Hydraulic Brake and Lift Unit.

The supporting programme also connected Munich with the world. During the expert breakfast with hearty Bavarian food, specialist knowledge was imparted in the German and English languages.
