News Alert: Trump administration issues rule narrowing women's access to birth-control coverage under the Affordable Care Act

The rule, which takes effect immediately, allows a much broader group of employers and insurers to claim a religious or moral exemption from offering no-charge contraceptives.

Several religious groups, which had battled the Obama administration for years over the controversial mandate, welcomed the pullback. But women's rights organizations and some medical professionals described it as a blow to women's health, arguing that it could lead to a higher number of unintended pregnancies.

The rule is sure to spark new legal challenges.
