Gorsuch nomination on track to irreparably change Senate — and further divide nation
Some Senate Democrats believe they can filibuster the nomination of Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court, which could prompt Republicans to change the rules to allow the approval of high-court picks via simple majority. If the filibuster goes away, so does yet another layer of collegiality in Congress — and another way to shore up Washington's credibility.
E.U. plunges into messy divorce as Britain gives formal notice to leave
Britain is the first full member of the E.U. to announce it is exiting the bloc, a reversal after decades of growing European integration. On the eve of an Oprah movie about Henrietta Lacks, an ugly feud consumes the family
Maybe it was the soon-to-be released Oprah Winfrey/HBO movie about the family matriarch, a Baltimore cancer patient whose cells were collected by Johns Hopkins researchers without her knowledge, that put the close-knit and increasingly famous family at war with itself.

Trump promised to bring back coal jobs. That promise 'will not be kept,' experts say.
Industry experts say coal mining jobs will continue to be lost, not because of blocked access to coal, but because power plant owners are turning to natural gas. At least 40 plants that rely on coal are projected to close during the president's four-year term.

Trump is throwing himself into the Democrats’ trap
The latest reports are that Trump is hoping to use the prospect of a big infrastructure package to woo Democrats to his side on tax reform, and, in the process, cut the recalcitrantly right-wing House Freedom Caucus out of any negotiations. There's only one flaw in this plan. It's called reality.

Since 2007, the DEA has taken $3.2 billion in cash from people not charged with a crime
The practice known as civil asset forfeiture is completely legal, but it does not require authorities to obtain a criminal conviction, and it allows departments to keep seized cash and property for themselves unless individuals successfully challenge the forfeiture in court.

‘There's not a hope alive for us’: A factory Trump targeted begins its move to Mexico

People are starting to default on their risky auto loans, but this isn't the next housing bubble

Hispanic contractors bid to build Trump's border wall. Then the death threats began.
