Trump and Jeffrey Epstein: What's the connection? Florida Circuit Judge Luis Delgado unsealed nearly 200 pages of grand jury testimony last week related to the 2006 Florida case involving disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was alleged to have raped teenage girls. Donald Trump's name never appears anywhere in the transcripts, but that hasn't stopped Democrats on social media and in the halls of Congress from suggesting Trump was a party to Epstein's schemes. "Something I've heard that doesn't seem to be being covered are the Epstein files. These files were released. And, like, Donald Trump is sort of all over this," Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) told reporters. "There are pictures of him with Epstein. He's taken multiple plane flights with Epstein with young girls on board. He's in call logs with Epstein. One of the highest trending hashtags on Twitter right now is about Trump and Epstein. … You all might want to look at that. Because that's highly disturbing." (Trump may have fueled some of this speculation by hedging in a recent Fox News interview about whether he'd seek to release all documents related to Epstein. "You don't want to affect people's lives if it's phony stuff in there," he said.) We dug into the public records to show what links there are between Trump and Epstein. Fact-checking Biden's claims as he seeks to save his candidacy As President Biden seeks to shore up support for his decision to seek a second term, he's embarked on a round of interviews and communications to make the case for his candidacy and against former president Donald Trump. This week, we produced two fact checks that looked at claims made by Biden as he made the rounds to reassure voters. Among the claims we looked at: - "Trump and the MAGA Republicans want another $5 trillion in tax cuts for rich people so they can cut Social Security and Medicare." (This is lacking context — especially since Trump has pledged not to cut Social Security.)
- "Well, Mark [Warner] is a good man. We've never had — he also tried to get the nomination too." (This is false — Warner never sought the Democratic nomination.)
- "Look, I remember them telling me the same thing in 2020. I can't win. The polls show I can't win." (This is wrong — Biden was ahead in the polls as soon as he clinched the Democratic nomination in April 2020, and he never fell behind.)
- "There are at least five presidents running or incumbent presidents who had lower numbers than I have now later in the campaign." (Only two did – and they both lost badly.)
