| New household washing machines, refrigerators and freezers will be subject to more stringent energy efficiency requirements under rules proposed by the Department of Energy on Friday. The efficiency standards on these household appliances would come into effect in 2027 and could save consumers $60 billion in energy savings over 30 years, the DOE said, while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollution. |
