Special Report: More than a century of data examined by The Post reveals the fastest-warming places in the U.S. Here’s how your county has changed.

A Washington Post analysis of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data across the Lower 48 states and 3,107 counties found that major areas are nearing or have already crossed the threshold of 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit), a crucial marker in international climate change policy. Alaska is the fastest-warming state, but Rhode Island is the first state in the Lower 48 whose average temperature rise has eclipsed 2 degrees Celsius. Other parts of the Northeast — New Jersey, Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts — trail close behind.
